01 - In a small mixing bowl, blend the softened cream cheese, butter, chopped dill if using, salt, and freshly ground black pepper until smooth and thoroughly combined.
02 - Using a butter knife or offset spatula, evenly spread the cream cheese mixture onto one side of each slice of crustless bread.
03 - Arrange thin cucumber slices in overlapping layers on four of the prepared bread slices.
04 - Place the remaining bread slices, cream cheese side down, over the cucumbers to create sandwiches.
05 - Gently press each assembled sandwich and cut into quarters, either rectangles or triangles, as desired.
06 - Serve immediately or cover sandwiches with a damp paper towel and refrigerate until ready to serve.
